Book Karin & David Today How to Win Well, When Winning Feels Impossible Last week I was doing a Winning Well workshop with the United Nations, when one of the individuals, “Pete,” checked out me sincerely and said, “I hear you, and all these tools sound good, and I’m going to make use of them. But what do you when Winning is unimaginable?” I waited for more. “Our mission is world peace.” Okay, Pete has some extent. And I’m penning this from an airplane on my way to speak to 900 healthcare staff who’s mission is to create “26 million distinctive affected person experiences a year. “That’s a tall order. If I was facing a terrifying analysis, or I was watching my sister die, or my child was born 4 months early, it might take a hell of a lot to convince me I was having an “distinctive” affected person experience. “Impossible” missions can crush the soul. You dig the wells, construct a college, buy again the weapons, and stabilize the village, only to find the following day a revolution causes you to evacuate. Or despite a mili tary of devoted docs and nurses all executing flawlessly collectively, the baby still dies. I’m certain you've your stories too. How do you get again up the following day and try again? My advice to Pete and anybody else doing work that actually matters is solely this. Focus on the “properly,” and the “wins” will follow. The Win with a capital W could be unimaginable, but the lower case wins add up and alter the world. Be assured your work makes a distinction and rise up for what matters. Stay humble, knowing that the mission is bigger than you and your frustrations. Identify, reinforce and rejoice the particular behaviors that result in breakthrough outcomes. Discouraging times often name for a confidence burst. Invest in the relationships with your team. Reach out to others who can help. Recognize the impact you’re making at a human stage. If you’re engaged on achieving the impossible, thank you. Focus on the well and the wins will comply with.
